Death benefits

Important update:
From 6 April 2027, unused pension funds and most pension death benefits will be included in the value of an estate for inheritance tax purposes. Read the full news story here.

No one likes to think about what will happen to their dependants if they die, but it is important to consider how they would be provided for. The Scheme provides various benefits under different circumstances - this section explains more about these.

If you have not nominated any beneficiaries - i.e. the person or people who will receive any benefits if you die - or if this information is out of date, you should complete a new nomination form as soon as possible. Please click here to update your nominated beneficiaries.

Please note that no lump sum is payable from the Scheme if you have been in receipt of a pension for more than five years.
